Individuals can contribute up to $5,500.00 to an IRA ($6,500.00 if you are over 50 years old) for the 2015 and 2016 tax years.  A maximum of $2,000.00 per year can be deposited into a Coverdell Education Savings Account (formerly Education IRA) for each child.
